Project description

Critical infrastructures such as telecommunication networks require a GNSS-based time reference to enable their proper functioning over a large area. A failure of the time distribution service can lead to the failure of critical infrastructures, which can result in power outages or the failure of the telecommunications network as well as serious security risks for the general public. It is in the nature of GNSS systems that they are susceptible to external, independent and random radio interference, jamming and spoofing. As a result, time synchronization can be interrupted or distorted, which entails the real risk of a failure of the time reference or a change in the time reference of the telecommunications network.

The CHRISS project will demonstrate for the first time a Galileo-based time distribution and synchronisation solution integrated in a device, enabling increased resilience to GNSS signal interference, jamming, spoofing and cyber-attacks, resulting in increased availability, accuracy and reliability of time distribution services.
